Simple Car Games for Kids

Eye Spy

We had to start on a classic, eye spy, a game not to be overlooked. The rules are basic, one player must pick an item or object, which if outside the car must be something in constant view (e.g. The road!). Once this has been chosen the player must say "Eye spy with my little eye, something beginning with..." followed by the first letter of the thing they have chosen. The other players must then guess what that thing is until they either get it right or give up.

Scissors, Paper and Rock - The three hand shapes you need!

Scissors, Paper, Rock

This is a game for two players. There are three hand shapes you need to know for this game, the scissor, the paper and the rock. The hand sign for scissors is a peace sign, paper is an open hand and rock is a closed hand. (Pictured right)

Both players count to three together and on three reveal there choice of hand symbols. If they are the same then the game is a draw, but if they are different then one player is a winner. You can tell the winner with these rules.

  • Scissors beats Paper (as scissors are used to cut paper)
  • Paper beats Rock (as you can wrap a rock in paper)
  • Rock beats Scissors (you can't cut a rock with scissors)
  • Count The Cars

Each player chooses a colour and then must count the cars of that colour they see. The first person to see thirty cars wins! This games life span can be cut a little short though in hot countries where most people drive a white car to try and keep the heat away!

    Road Map Hide and Seek

This used to be a favorite of mine and my sisters on long journeys. One of us used to take the road atlas, find a nice page with lots of stuff on and pick a village or small town (preferably with a silly sounding name). The other person then has to find it! Its a simple game but with a road atlas with large pages each round could last for ages!

    20 Questions

Another classic game! Ideal for two people, the first player has to think of an object, be it a rock, a carrot, a giraffe or a tank. The second player then is allowed to ask twenty questions to guess what that item is to which the first player is only allowed to answer "yes" or "no". If the second player does not guess within in twenty questions then the first player wins. Don't forget, when you make a guess to what the object is asking "Is it a spoon?" counts as a question.

    Odd or Even

Another two player game that plays similar to "scissors, paper, rock". One player chooses either "odd" or "even" before a round is played. Then on the count of three each player raises there hands holding up as many fingers as they want. Both players then have to add up the fingers they and their opponent is holding up. If it is odd, the player who chose odd wins and vica versa. This one is a great game to help young kids getting the hang of maths.

You can also adapt this game to a "higher or lower" where they have to guess if the total is going to be hire or lower then the last number!

    Alphabet Games

Do you know the difference between an ant eater and an aardvark?

This is a game a large group can play . Firstly you choose a theme, for example Animals. The person who starts off has to name an animal beginning with A, like Aardvark. Then the next player has to name an animal beginning with B, and the player after that has the letter C.

If a player can't think of an animal they go out and they pass their letter onto the next player. This continues until one player is left and declared the winner.

Other themes can include Food, Films, Towns, Countries, Books and Actors.
